Embellishment #4 - Note Cards

In this tutorial we will learn how to make note cards, which can used as tags, printed out on note paper for formal note cards or as embellishments for scrapbooking.  And they are so much fun to make, we will use some  ribbons we made previously and edge masks to make the note come alive.  But you can use just about anything to make them, tubes of flowers, charms, ding fonts, etc  . . .  to name just a few.

Open an raster image 320 X 480, 200 dpi, Transparent Background.
To get a good printable image you need to convert pixels per inch in 200 dpi (dots per inch) images.  Take the size you wish to make in the printed versions say 4X5 by multiplying the 4" x 200, and 5" x 200 you would need your image to be 800 X 1000 to be able to print. But for this exercise use smaller image as above)

Next we want to determine our color palette for this card, I like to make a thumbnail with the colors laid out to show my color choices to see if they will work together.  Like this

The top three are my main color, the next two are my contrasting color and the bottom one is the pattern I will be using.  The first thing we want to do is to flood fill our pattern into the image.  This gives us our first layer.

Next we will open another new image same as the first, and this one we flood fill with a solid white.  We are going to use this white to make a topper for our note card. Rotate this image by going to Image / Rotate / Rotate Left.  Then we will add an edge mask to it by going to Layers / Load/Save Mask / Load Mask From Disk.
Here we need to choose an Edge Mask like the one pictured below.

Then Click on the load button in the next window.  Your mask has now been applied to your white image, merge all visible layers, then we need to resize it down a bit to fit the size of our note, I reduced mine 70%.  Back to the patterned image and add a new Raster Layer, copy and paste the white edged image and place at the top of the note card, while the image is still selected apply a drop shadow, it should look similar to this.

next we need to embellish our note card, remember the ribbon bows we made a few lessons ago, I am going to be using one of those for this lesson.  But first I want to add a ribbon across the topper.  Go to your pen tool then choose a color to compliment your pattern, I chose the gold from my color choice thumbnail that I made previously.  Set the line width to 12 and draw a line across the topper, add a slight drop shadow and it should now look like this.

Then we will add our ribbon bow that we made from the previous lesson.  And this note card is done.  I added a border just so you could see the card on this white background.

Now you can make others using different elements, masks and patterns.  Next lesson we will be adding a vellum (semi-transparent) note area on the card.

Have Fun!
