Embellishments #5 - Vellum Image
I love the look of the Vellum (semi-transparent) images overlayed
on cards and tags. And we are going to make a couple different ones in the
exercise.
Open a new raster image 330 x 330, transparent, 200
dpi. We are going to flood fill this image with white. Once we
have a complete white image go to Layers / Load/Save Mask / Load Mask
from Disk.

Pick a four edge mask similar to the one
you see above that I chose. In the next window make sure
that the image of your mask shows with black on the outside edge
and the white inside, the white is the area we want to see once the mask is
applied. The black will be the transparency.

Click load and you will have your new mask
layer. At this point you want to merge your layers, go to Layers / Merge /
Merge Visual.

The only thing left we need to do now
is to lower the opacity, go to your Layer Palette and click on the newly
merged layer and lower the opacity down to about 68% and the image will become
semi-transparent. You can see that the grey and white tiles that we
truly have a nice vellum. You can save this image now as a tube,
pspimage, or .png to keep the transparency. (be aware if you try to
print this vellum, it will not show the transparency unless you are printing on
semi-transparent paper).
Now that we have our vellum let's use it. You did a note card in the
last embellishment exercise we can use that for notes as it is but we can also
add this nice vellum and have an space just for your
text.
Open the note image, you may need to adjust the size of the vellum to fit
the note, I had to resize down 80% to get it to fit on my note card.
Copy and paste the vellum as a new layer into the note card
and move it around if needed to center it onto the note. And here it
is.

Now we have a nice area to place our text into the
note.
Now we will try a tag using the same kind of effect. We
will be using the texture Lace7 you can find it
here, you will need to copy this
image into your My Documents / PSP Files / Textures folder to be able to
use it. Once you have that done open a new raster image 300 X 300,
200 dpi, transparent background. In the materials palette choose white for
the foreground and background colors, but in the background use the texture you
have just supplied.
Choose the Preset Shape Tool making sure that you have the
Create as vector clicked. We also want
to have the anti-alias checked and the line width set to 3 then draw a
large heart (or other shape) into the image. Like this.

Going to the Layers Palette we want to
reduce the opacity down to about 65%. This is our vellum we can now save it as a
tube, a .png or pspimage to use in the future. Lets make a tag
using this image.
Open a new image, using the draw tool create a square and flood fill with a
desired color, As I have below, then layer on new vector layer your
heart vellum over the square once you have it placed where you
want click on your selection or pick tool

and grabbing the handle with your mouse tilt the heart as shown
here.

Add a tube, or other embellishment and your text
and you have a beautiful tag!

Here are some others that I made using the same technique.
Have Fun!
