Making Simple Buttons

In scrapbooking buttons are found everywhere and because they are so simple to make you can add them to all of your embellished creations.

Open a transparent image 300 X 300 and choose a neutral color, I have chosen a medium gray for the fill color (Background) and a darker version of the same color for outline color (Foreground).

Using the shape tool choose the circle option, and use these settings.  Uncheck create on Vector and Show Nodes,  Line width at 13 and Anti-alias checked.

Draw a large circle in the middle of your canvas.  You have a gray circle with a dark gray edge around it.  Like this.

Taking your Selection Tool Change the type to circle make sure the feather is at 0 and anti-alias is checked.  Draw a circle near the center of our larger circle for the first button hole.  Holding the Shift Button Down you can draw another circle for the second button hole.  It may take several times before you get the positioning right.  Just Click Edit / Undo until you are satisfied with the placement.  Once you are happy with both button hole placements tap the Delete key and the holes will be deleted. Like this:

Now with the selection tool again draw a circle around the whole button shape, then click inside and the outside edges of the button should be selected including the holes.

Next go to Effects / 3D Effects / Inner Bevel and use these settings.

This will give you the desired look of the button.  You will notice that the darker outline of the circle gives us a look of a lip on the button.

Now you can colorize your button any shade you wish, Go to Adjust / Hue and Saturation / Colorize and choose the color for your button like this.

And there you have a great looking button you can use for almost anything.  Play around with the different bevel settings and colors, you can even flood fill your button with pattern to make a custom button.  Add a couple of more holes for a four hole button.

Have Fun!
