Colorful Ribbons
Ribbons are fun to make, and the possibilities are
endless! Start by opening a image 800 X 120 with a transparent
background. You will need to choose a black and white image for a stencil
of sorts. Here is mine.

I will need to reduce the size on this, going to Image /
Resize (Shift + 7) resize down to fit our ribbon, 25% is what I used.
With the Flood Fill tool

Fill the white background with the color of your
choice. (You may need to increase the color depth if this image is in
grayscale) Here is mine.

Next we want to color in the leaves and petals of our flower,
this step is optional, you can leave it black if you like. Here is
mine.

Now I want to add more space on either side of my image.
Go to Image / Add Border and uncheck the Symmetric box. I am going to add 6
pixels on each side of the image in the yellow background color like this:
Now copy and paste into our ribbon image as a new layer.
This will center it in the middle of the image like this.
Now paste the image on either side until the whole space is
filled, like this.
Now we can add a border to the ribbon on each side.
Using the pen tool in freehand mode with a contrasting color, set the width
to about 12, click on the top right corner of our ribbon, then click on the top
left corner then click apply, and do the same at the bottom of the
ribbon. I like to use two different colors in my border as seen
below.
At this point we need merge our layers, Layers / Merge / Merge
Visible to keep our background transparent. Now comes the fun part, to
make it look like a real ribbon we needs some ribbing in it, Go to Effects /
Texture Effects / Blinds and use these settings.
And now you have a
beautiful new ribbon for use on your scrap pages, you may want to make your
images larger, I used these settings for instructional purposes. 1200 x
180 is a good place to start if you are going to use them for printing a page.
Here is a sample of the uses for these ribbons, but I am sure
you have some ideas of your own!
Have Fun!
