Lesson 24 - Misting, How is it Done?

Misting is great for adding an image to a website where you want it to blend into the background.  It is also great for making cards.  There are other ways of misting but I found this was the easiest and the one that gave me the look I wanted.

You can download a graphic to work with here, It is a Marty Bell image.  You first must open this image in PSP.  The Using the Freehand Selection Tool (Lasso Tool)  Make sure the settings are:  Selection type: Point to Point, Mode: Replace and Feather: between 30-40. Anti-alias checked.   See below

Now using the Lasso Tool you want to choose a path around the main portion of the image,  in this image it would be the vase of roses.  Once you have the path chosen and there is the marquee around the vase of roses, Click on Selections/Invert.  You will see
that marquee has moved.

Now Choose the Background Color you want, either chose one of your own (Like White or Black
Now click on your Delete Button.  You can hit Delete a couple of times, it will make the outline tighter.
If you don't like what you did, Undo and start again.

Thats it!  It is really that simple.

Here is mine!  Good Luck!
