This makes for a great flood fill pattern. First we need
to open a new image, 300 x 300, 16 million colors, background color white.
Now set your foreground color (upper box) to Black and chose your airbrush
tool,
Set the brush size to about 15, the Step to
1, the Opacity to 100, and the Density to 100. The other settings are flexible.
Simply use the Airbrush to scribble some black lines on the canvas. Be sure to
leave lots of white areas, however. It should look similar to this:

Now we are going to use the smudge tool it will
look like this

using the default shape, the round and set the size rather large,
90-100 or so. The Hardness to 20, the Step to 1, and the Opacity and
Density to 100. Drag the smudge tool across your image (back and forth
diagonally works nicely) until you get a fairly smooth blending of grays.

your image should now look similar to this.
Now we want to color it. Add a new raster layer. Go to Layers/New
Raster Layer and leave the default settings. Choosing a color of your
choice flood fill the layer then on the Layer Palette find your Raster 1 Layer
and next to eye icon should be a slider. Slide the button down until the
satin image shows through. it should look something like this.

See how pretty it looks, wasn't that easy! You want to
merge your layers by going to Layers/Merge/Merge All. And there you have
your background ready to use as a flood fill. This will not make a good
tiling background, but is perfect for Flood Fills.
Want it in another color, try colorizing. Go to Adjust/
Hue and Saturation/ Colorize now using the slider buttons you can change
the color of your Satin.
Have some fun with it!
