Lesson #29 - Working more with Layers

Layers are the essence of creating and combining images.   I use PSP 9 but this works with most versions of PSP.  I am using the tube found here.

We need to open this tube in PSP.  Next you need to open another Image.  We will want to make this 450 x 550 with a white background.  Now we are going to copy the tube and paste it into our new image.  Next we will add a new layer, go to Layers/New Raster Layer  and click OK when the Layer Box appears.

You now have two layers,  you will need to use the Flood Fill Tool like this   and use the white solid color to fill our new layer.  Your image should look like an empty white image.  Go to your layer palette, using the slide button next to the eye icon as above, and slide the button to the left until you have a shadow of the tube behind.  I set mine to about 70% and it looks like this.

Next we are going to pull a color out of the picture, any color will work, I chose a Pink from the ball of yarn.
We need now to make another layer, Go to Layers/New Raster Layer and click OK at the bottom of the box.  Next we are going to make an Oval in the our color of choice. We need to find our Ellipse Tool
This tool can be found in different areas with different versions, in PSP9
it is in the left toolbar with the rectangle tool, It may be in your Preset Shapes in earlier version.

Make an Oval over the Image like below:

Again we go to our Layer Palette and move the slider for this layer until we get a  shadow of the lower layer I used the same percentage of 70% like below.

Next we are going to paste the tube into our new Image, but we want to put it on a new layer too, in case we need to adjust this image.  Again, Go to Layers/New Raster Layer and click ok again.  We should now have 4 layers.  Back to your Tube
we want to resize this image.  Go to Image/Resize and Resize to Percentage of 70%.  Your settings should look like this.

We will be adding our new resized tube to our working image.  So copy the resized tube and paste into the new image. like this

Now add a Drop Shadow to the Image.  Go to Effects/3D Effects/Drop Shadow adjust the drop shadow according to your taste and apply to our picture.  Now all we have to do is Merge all the layers, Go to Layers/Merge/Merge All (Flatten).  You can now add a frame, and text and resize for a new Tag.  Here is the One I made.
